DHCP Vendor Class Identifier (VCI) for Microsoft Windows and Android Devices
DHCP Vendor Class Identifier
A DHCP Vendor Class Identifier (VCI) is a vendor-assigned identifier that helps a Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) server to identify a client device and provide it with appropriate network configuration settings.
Microsoft Windows VCI
The VCI for Microsoft Windows 10 devices is
MSFT 5.0. This VCI indicates to a DHCP server that the client device is a Microsoft Windows machine.
Android VCI
The VCI for Android devices is
dhcpcd-5.5.6. This VCI indicates to a DHCP server that the client device is an Android device.
Updated Client Vendor Name for Windows Devices
In addition to the VCI, the traditional Client Vendor Name has been updated for some Windows-based devices. The new Client Vendor Name is
"Microsoft Windows 10".
