Dday 1944 Airborne

D-Day: Allied Invasion of Normandy

Historic Military Operation

On June 6, 1944, Allied forces comprising over 156,000 American, British, and Canadian troops executed a massive amphibious landing operation on the heavily fortified beaches of Normandy, northern France.

Liberation of Europe

Codenamed "D-Day," the Normandy landings were the largest amphibious invasion in history and played a pivotal role in the Allied liberation of Europe from Nazi occupation. The success of the operation was facilitated by the air superiority established by Allied airmen, who neutralized the German air force, the Luftwaffe.

Airborne Vanguard

The initial phase of the invasion involved airborne troops parachuting behind enemy lines to secure strategic positions. The American 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions, among others, successfully landed, providing a crucial vanguard for the subsequent amphibious assault.
