Mookie Betts Returns to Fenway Park with Dodgers
Former MVP Sparks Dodgers' Win Over Red Sox
Betts' 3-Hit Performance Leads to 7-4 Victory
Former Boston Red Sox star Mookie Betts made a triumphant return to Fenway Park on Friday night, helping the Los Angeles Dodgers to a 7-4 victory over his former team. Betts, who was traded to the Dodgers in February, received a standing ovation from the Fenway Park crowd before his first at-bat.
Betts went on to have a three-hit game, including a two-run homer in the fourth inning that gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. He also singled and doubled, and scored two runs.
The Dodgers' victory snapped a three-game losing streak and moved them into a tie for first place in the NL West with the San Diego Padres.
Betts' performance was a reminder of why he was such a valuable player for the Red Sox. He was a key member of the team's 2018 World Series championship team, and he finished that season with a .346 batting average, 32 home runs, and 80 stolen bases. He was named the American League MVP that year.
The Red Sox traded Betts to the Dodgers in February in a cost-cutting move. The Dodgers gave up outfielder Alex Verdugo, infielder Jeter Downs, and catcher Connor Wong in the deal.
